Ex Libris Gala – The Book: A Story of Resilience

The Ex Libris Gala is our library’s largest annual fundraising event and provides a significant portion of our operating budget as well as funding for special programs and projects. It has dedicated followers who attend year after year, donning festive attire and enjoying an evening of good company and literary conversation. It’s great fun and a great way to support the library.We will gather in the Garden Terrace at the Woodstock Inn for a cocktail reception at 5:30. A three-course dinner and wine will be served in the Woodstock Room at 6:30. You may choose one of three entrees – meat, fish, or vegetarian – when you make your reservation.Tickets are $175 per person and may be purchased by clicking the button below or you may stop by the library to fill out the RSVP form. Priscilla Painton, now a neighbor here in the Village, grew up in Paris and moved to the United States to attend Mount Holyoke College. She spent almost 30 years as a journalist, starting at The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, MA, then moving on to The Washington Post and The Atlanta Constitution, and finally landing at Time, where she became the magazine’s first female number two as deputy managing editor. As the journalism industry was beginning its decline, she leapt into publishing and became the editor-in-chief of Simon & Schuster, heading up its nonfiction program. In that capacity, she manages a half-dozen editors, but she also has a history of publishing numerous best sellers herself, from Walter Isaacson on Elon Musk and Robert Wright on Buddhism, to Hillary Clinton, Bill Browder, as well as celebrities, vice presidents, national security advisors, historians, journalists, doctors and even humorists like Dave Barry.***
