Summer Reading Program | Unearth a Story
Unearth a Story
Help us unearth stories, treasures, vegetables, bones, who knows what else! Stop by the Children’s Room for details.
This year, the Summer Reading Program’s theme is “Unearth a Story” and we have plans for lots of fun! The official program runs for six weeks, from June 27 to August 8. Reading Logs and the Potato Plot are ongoing; activities are summarized on this calendar.
How to Participate
- Each participant must pick up a reading log and sticker sheet downstairs at the library.
- Add one sticker to your log for each day you spend time with a book.*
- For every 7 stickers, you get to pick one prize, one book, and you will receive one raffle ticket.
*Each family decides what this means for their young reader – being read to may count, as well.

Family Movie Night
On Friday, June 26 at 7 pm, we’ll kick off the program with a special Family Movie Night screening of A Night at the Museum. Natural history exhibits come alive after the museum closes for the night because of an ancient curse. (details & trailer)
Friday, July 17 at 7 pm, enjoy the further adventure of Manny, Sid, Diego, and Scrat in Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Our heroes join forces with new friends: Ellie – a female mammoth who thinks she’s a possum – and her possum brothers, Crash and Eddie, to save the valley from an epic flood. (details & trailer)
The August film will be announced soon!

The Potato Plot
Part of our exploration of all things buried in the earth is the installation of a raised garden bed on the lawn between the courthouse and the library.
A young crew planted seed potatoes along with other edibles and flowers in late May. Stop by and check out their progress.
The “Po-tat-Ho-Down” End of Summer Celebration date will be announced in mid-August, depending on our garden’s potato harvest date.
We’re planning a drawing for raffle prizes, potato sack races, potato stamping activites, and of course, a French fry bar! Stay tuned…

- July 31: Insects
*In case of rain, we’ll take our lessons indoors and focus on animal skulls.
