Musicians and listeners alike are invited to attend and enjoy this Interplay Jazz Jam Session on the Mezzanine with its great acoustics and baby grand piano.

These jam sessions are a social gathering and a communal practice session. Starting at 6 pm, instrumentalists participate in free-flow tunes to develop new material and play together. Continuing at 7, singers may wish to join in. Bring well-known jazz standards, popular songs or an original tune to play with the instrumentalists along with 6-8 copies of the sheet music of the songs you wish to play. Jam session ends at 9 pm.

Founded in 1996 by local musicians Fred Haas and Sabrina Brown, Interplay Jazz & Arts has been inspiring musicians of all ages from around the world. People often ask, “What is a jam session?” A jam session is a relatively informal musical event at which musicians, typically instrumentalists, play improvised solos and vamp on tunes, songs and chord progressions. To “jam” is to improvise music without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements, except for when the group is playing well-known jazz standards or covers of existing popular songs.

Musicians on Mezzanine @ NWPLYou are invited to bring an offering of food or drink to share if you’d like.
