Long Story, Short?
Do you love short stories? Are you impressed by a unique description, an apt turn of phrase or a surprising plot twist? Ever wonder why a certain story resonates with many people?
A patron is interested in forming a discussion group focussed on The Story and Its Writer: An Introduction to Short Fiction by Ann Charters. (We would have to settle on which edition so everyone is on the same page.) About the current edition, the publisher writes:
Where stories and their writers do the talking.
This anthology is not only full of great stories, it also provides you with the tools you need to become better at reading them and writing about them. The more skillfully we can read a short story, the more we are able to recognize the truth about life that it reveals.
The discussion group would meet every other week for 6 sessions. To ensure continuity, we ask that participants commit to the 12-week series, running mid March through mid-June.
Alternatively, we could gather a more informal group who meet monthly, and select from a broader range of stories.
If this sounds intriguing, please fill out the Interest Form and we will let you know if we have gathered enough readers to schedule a new group.
