Vermont Reads at NWPL: Discussion of The Most Costly Journey – Hybrid (In Person & Online)

August 9, 2022 @ 1:00 pm2:30 pm

The Vermont Humanities Council has selected The Most Costly Journey as this year’s title for its Vermont Reads program. The book, edited by Marek Bennett, Andy Kolovos, and Teresa Mares, tells the stories of migrant workers on Vermont farms, illustrated by leading cartoon artists.

Join Learning Lab instructor Ron Miller and community educator Jackie Fischer for a two-part conversation about this eye-opening and poignant account of the dreams and challenges of the people who do so much of the work essential to Vermont agriculture.

We’ll discuss participants’ reactions to the book, reflect on the immigration experience in our own family histories, and gain more insights from a conversation with folks from the organization Migrant Justice.

Thanks to a grant from the VHC, multiple copies are available to borrow.
