Here at Norman Williams Library no group is more essential to our success than our Volunteers. Without their time, skills and dedication, it would be impossible for us to operate and thrive. The Library always needs help from our community members. They help at the front desk, keep our shelves in order, assist patrons with tech issues, change light bulbs and much, much more.   Below are some of the areas where we currently utilize volunteers.   All new suggestions are welcome. If you can devote even a few hours a week to "Norman", we would love to have you!

Book Reviewer - Help us write with our blog of new book reviews. Take our new books and write description for us to put up on normanwilliams.org and our new Goodreads forum.

Writer - Enjoy writing? Think about contributing to our newsletters and news columns about library activities, accomplishments and plans – consider writing a ‘day in the life’ of the library and chronicle our daily life! We have about 8,000 people that come into the library each month and numerous programs; there is a lot of activity to write about!

Circulation Desk Assistant - Any day(s) Mon-Sat. We would like volunteers who can commit to a set schedule (eg: Tuesdays, 3-5) of their choice to provide weekly help. Work may include answering reference questions, circulating books, shelving and filling out Inter-library Loan requests.

Tech Tutors - Up to 2 hours each week as available. We're looking for several volunteers, both adults and teens, who are tech-savvy and would like to lead some short talks and Q&A sessions on topics such as searching the Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, using digital cameras, using an iPod...and whatever else you're interested in!

Book Club Coordinators - As available. We're looking for at least three co-coordinators to start book discussion groups for "small book store literature" and bestsellers. Co-coordinators would switch off leading discussions until such a time as a core group of readers has been built up and other group members could help facilitate. Coordinators would continue to be a liaison to library staff and to help with advertising the meetings.

Handy Man - As needed. Someone to do those 'little jobs' around the library like change the overhead light bulbs; small repairs like patching a small hole or fixing a drawer; fixing small items like step stools or chairs that need gluing; and any number of small things that come up randomly. If you like to putter you are just the person we want!

Volunteer Coordinator - M-F several hours a week. Some of the job can be done from home. Requires someone to organize, schedule and track our volunteers. Making sure time slots are filled, substitutes are available for other volunteers when they go away or are ill. Maintains contact information, training information and the volunteer handbook.

Program Coordinator - M-F several hours a week. Requires working with the Director to conceive, plan and implement programs for the general public at the library. Helps with set up and over site. Contacts and coordinates speakers, presenters, displays.

Book sale - Ongoing. The foyer and rare book sale committees are always looking for help. Sorting, pricing and researching possible rare donations. If you are interested in volunteering for the book sale please let us know!

Shelf Reader - Ongoing. The library is always looking for volunteers to keep our shelves in order. Pick your favorite section! Who knows, you may find something to borrow at the same time!
