Artist Statement

“I really have nothing new or special to say, nor any precious words to convey. The drawings should speak for themselves.”

Reviews

“Burchess’ figurative drawings combine both the fine artistry of a proficient master with the surreal quality unearthed in pursuit of the subconscious mind.” (Beth Miller, Gallery Director, Chaffee Art Center, Rutland)

“Burchess’ drawings are monumental and riveting… the kind of images that draw people closer, further inside… his faces unsparingly confront gnarled complexities… in line drawings and ultra-realistic portraits that convey both the body and mind’s wrack and ruin… but the paradoxical effect of great art is to create something of strength and possible hope.” (Ed Barna, veteran arts critic for the Rutland Herald)
