Learn a new language…
Parlez-vous français?
Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
Вы говорите по-русски?
One of the many free services available to patrons of the Norman Williams Public Library is a language education tool called “Powerspeak.” 8 different languages are available: French, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and German. There are even 2 ESL curricula, one for native Spanish speakers and the other for Mandarin speakers.
A “language coach” guides you through various lessons and exercises, starting from how to say hello to ordering a meal and getting around a foreign town. Check out the following webinar that describes the features of the program and how to access it:

When you’re ready, click here, and enter your library barcode when prompted for a password. You will then see a list of all the online databases available to you; the link to launch Powerspeak Languages is third from the bottom. They suggest you set up a user ID so you can come back to where you left off each time and you’ll also be able to see your progress and exercise results over multiple sessions.
Profitez-en bien!
