SUMMARY:LEGO Club
DESCRIPTION:Let’s Goooooooooooo LEGO! \nNWPL is offering a 6-week\, after-school program for kids in grades 3\, 4\, and 5 to engage their maker minds and builder brains. Come have fun with fellow Lego enthusiasts in a supportive and creative environment. \nWe’ll get creative by warming up with some timed\, open-ended\, building activities and then tackle the week’s main challenge theme. \nPhotographs will preserve these efforts and may be posted on our social media to be admired publicly! All projects will be disassembled and returned to bins for the next session. \nSpace is limited; registration is requested. To reserve a space for your child\, please sign up with the Children’s Librarian or email Children@NormanWilliams.org. \nNotes: \n\nPer library policy\, children age 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult or responsible adolescent who is at least 14 years old.\nPlease leave your personal Lego sets at home.

SUMMARY:Summer Reading Program | Unearth a Story
DESCRIPTION:Unearth a Story\nHelp us unearth stories\, treasures\, vegetables\, bones\, who knows what else! Stop by the Children’s Room for details. \nThis year\, the Summer Reading Program’s theme is “Unearth a Story” and we have plans for lots of fun! The official program runs for six weeks\, from June 27 to August 8. Reading Logs and the Potato Plot are ongoing; activities are summarized on this calendar. \nHow to Participate\n\nEach participant must pick up a reading log and sticker sheet downstairs at the library.\nAdd one sticker to your log for each day you spend time with a book.*\nFor every 7 stickers\, you get to pick one prize\, one book\, and you will receive one raffle ticket.\n\n*Each family decides what this means for their young reader – being read to may count\, as well. \n+++ \nFamily Movie Night\nOn Friday\, June 26 at 7 pm\, we’ll kick off the program with a special Family Movie Night screening of A Night at the Museum. Natural history exhibits come alive after the museum closes for the night because of an ancient curse. (details & trailer) \nFriday\, July 17 at 7 pm\, enjoy the further adventure of Manny\, Sid\, Diego\, and Scrat in Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Our heroes join forces with new friends: Ellie – a female mammoth who thinks she’s a possum – and her possum brothers\, Crash and Eddie\, to save the valley from an epic flood. (details & trailer) \nThe August film will be announced soon! \n+++ \nStory Time & Craft Activities\n \nThree special Saturday Story Times will be followed by creative activities! Stories start at 10:30\, and the crafts begin just after 11. Come for either or both. \n\nJune 27: Archaeology & Cave Painting – draw your own cave art on large sheets of paper\nJuly 18: Read & Decorate: Pet Rocks – design and paint a smooth stone\nAugust 8: Nature Stories & Collage – create a collage with found objects in nature\n\n+++ \nThe Potato Plot\n \nJoin the Spud Club and explore all things buried in the earth! We started by planting seed potatoes in late May. \nWe’ll meet on Wednesdays at 4 pm – after you’ve had time to make the rounds at the Farmers Market on the Green – to tend to our plants. They might need weeding or watering… \nThe “Po-tat-Ho-Down” End of Summer Celebration date will be announced in mid-August\, depending on our garden’s potato harvest date. \nWe’re planning a drawing for raffle prizes\, potato sack races\, potato stamping activities\, and of course\, a French fry bar! Stay tuned… \n+++ \nLittle Explorers: Stories & Science\n\nIn partnership with Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park\, Little Explorers: Stories & Science is a series of nature-themed story times and lessons to be held in NWPL’s Side Garden. \nLed by the park’s Young Professionals\, the program is geared for explorers pre-kindergarten through third grade.
