Come hear Philadelphia author Janet Benton, whose debut novel Lilli de Jong has been called a “monumental accomplishment” (Kirkus Reviews) and “a stunning ode to motherhood” (author Sarah McCoy). Released May 16 by Nan A. Talese/Doubleday, the novel tells the story of an unwed Quaker mother in 1883 who decides to keep her baby. It is in the form of the young mother’s diary. Reviewers have compared the work to that of Geraldine Brooks. The author will read from the novel, discuss the history and motivations behind it, answer questions, and sign books.
